The US singer will play the character of Nala, alongside the lead character Simba, played by Donald Glover.
Beyonce joins an ensemble that includes James Earl Jones, who is reprising his role from the 1994 film as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazuand, Seth Rogan as Pumba the warthog.
The upcoming film is a CG-animated re-imagining of the 1994 Walt Disney classic “The Lion King.”
Bill Condon, who directed Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” live-action remake had Beyonce in mind as Plumette, the feather duster. But it wasn’t a ‘big enough part.’
To be directed by Jon Favreau, who helmed “The Jungle Book” remake, “The Lion King” live-action is scheduled for release on July 19, 2019.
